Baystartup's Munich Business Plan Competition has been supporting young Munich-based companies on their path to growth for over 25 years. This year's submissions once again demonstrated the diversity of Munich's startup scene, how Fabian Brunner, Head of the Munich Business Plan Competition, explains:
"The theme of deep tech, for which Munich startups are so well known, is also evident in the submissions to this year's competition. Participating teams from the state capital are particularly strong here, especially from the university environment. Overall, however, we see a distinct industry diversity among the participants, who come from all over Upper Bavaria."
The winning startups
The startup works in the field of renewable energies Energyminer on a technology for harnessing river hydropower that is designed to be cost-effective and avoid harmful interference with nature. Power generation is fish-friendly and does not interfere with the river habitat. Richard Eckl, Managing Director of Energyminer, says about participating in the Munich Business Plan Competition:
"By participating in the competition, we want to increase our visibility for investors. The feedback from the expert jury helps us continue to develop."
There are also award-winning startup innovations in photovoltaics: Otter Energy Trading, for example, wants to enable companies to market self-generated solar power with the help of intelligent software.
The fields of medical technology and health management were also represented in the first phase. Puray a novel medical catheter that protects patients from hospital-acquired infections using UVC light. The Sedivention team is working on another catheter specifically for the treatment of obesity. Ryver.ai, on the other hand, aims to use generative AI to generate diverse test and training data and make AI safe in radiology. Viable Surgery is developing surgical devices that simplify minimally invasive procedures and give physicians more control. Nico Weigand, Co-founder of Viable Surgery, says about participating in the competition:
"Baystartup is an excellent resource for founders looking for capital. As a young medical technology startup, participating in the business plan competitions gives us the opportunity to further refine our business idea through expert feedback and gain access to investors."
Innovative technologies for industrial and business customers, including hardware and software solutions, also play an important role in the competition. Among the ten winners of Phase 1 is the startup Additive Electronics, which offers 3D printers for the production of electronic components from electrically conductive and non-conductive materials. This enables new component designs and functionalities. The team at Harmonize, meanwhile, enables the food industry to measure the taste of food and design it precisely by combining biotechnology and AI. In the area of software solutions for companies, Audivio offers an audience analytics tool that gives advertisers insight into consumer behavior. And Data Q Company wants to enable companies to make better decisions with AI-based software that makes data quality transparent, supports corrections, and promotes collaboration.
Applications for Phase 2 are still possible until March 28
Startups from Munich and southern Bavaria can further develop their plans in the second phase of the competition: Following the business outline from Phase 1, a roughly 20-page business plan is now required, which should focus more on the marketing and sales strategy. Both Phase 1 participants and newcomers can register and submit their documents until March 28.
