Navel Robotics has developed a social robot called “Navel” that is designed to offset the heavy workload of nursing and caregivers and help ensure quality care. the Munich startup Deeptech, AI, and a special design to interact empathetically with residents in nursing homes and respond with appropriate facial expressions and gestures. This is intended to improve social care.
With this concept, Navel Robotics was able to win the jury of the Digital Health Award and secure first place, worth 25,000 euros. Anne Seubert, Founder & CEO at Brands & Places, laudator and member of the DGP jury, summarizes the decision:
"Deeptech meets care: With the care robot, the team at Navel Robotics has created an innovative and powerful approach that focuses on social interaction and the emotional and psychological needs of residents. The solution from this year's DGP winner is exciting in terms of technology and, at the same time, tailored to everyday care. As a jury, we saw the diverse potential applications of the self-learning system, both in research and directly with patients."
Navel Robotics follows in the footsteps of Curevision and Neolexon
Second place went to Her-Medical-Aid from Berlin. The startup's platform offers companies the opportunity to support their employees with health and hormonal issues. Third place went to Fitkick Liga, a company run by Info GmbH from Cloppenburg. The solution uses wearables and gamification to improve heart health. The Heidelberg-based telephone service Silberdraht also received the special award "Access for All and Everywhere." The service provides citizens without an internet connection with barrier-free access to audio-based digital content.
Heinrich Moisa, Chairman of the Management Board of Novartis Germany, summarizes the results of the DGP:
"Artificial intelligence and other modern technologies have the potential to revolutionize our healthcare system. The finalists of the 2024 Digital Health Award have impressively demonstrated this."
Novartis Germany has been awarding the Digital Health Prize since 2018. Winners from Munich are not uncommon: For example, Curevision second place last year. With Neolexon In 2020 there was another winner from the state capital.
