Life is good on the Isar – this is also confirmed by a recently published ranking: The management consultancy Mercer has chosen Munich is the city in Germany with the highest quality of lifeIn a global comparison, the state capital ranks fourth behind Vienna, Zurich, and Auckland. Düsseldorf (6th) and Frankfurt am Main (7th) also make it into the world's ten most livable cities.
The ranking takes into account both political, economic, ecological and social factors. Criteria such as health, education, and transportation, as well as other public services, are also considered. Given the global security situation, political stability and local crime rates were given greater weight this year than before. Ulrike Hellenkamp of Mercer says:
“In German cities, comparatively low crime, law enforcement is efficient, social and political conditions are stable. They are therefore considered very safe perceived and rank very high in international comparison.”
Terrorism and social unrest led to the downgrading of several European metropolises in the ranking: Paris (71st place), London (72nd place), Madrid (84th place) and Athens (124th place) ended up in the lower ranks.
