City ranking: Munich remains Germany's "best city"

The Business Week has published its annual city ranking for 2017. As previous year Munich wins the comparison.

The economy in the Bavarian capital is doing well, as the latest edition of the city rankings shows. Business Week writes:

“Renowned global brands such as BMW or Siemens guarantee high-paying jobs, To top it all off, the startup scene in Munich is also flourishing. Taken together, that's enough to secure the undisputed top spot."

On the other places of the Level rankings, which reflects the current economic situation of German cities, Ingolstadt, Stuttgart, Erlangen, and Frankfurt am Main landed. The newspaper calculates the ranking based on 53 individual indicators.

Once top, twice second

In addition, the study includes two further rankings: The Future ranking describes how well cities are prepared for digital transformation. It includes 13 indicators related to creativity, innovation and Industry 4.0. Dynamic ranking looks back and assesses how 40 selected indicators have changed over the past five years.

As in the previous year, Darmstadt leads the future ranking. Munich moved up one place to second place. Erlangen, Stuttgart, and Wolfsburg are the next best-positioned cities for the future.

In the dynamic ranking, Munich loses its top spot from last year and falls to second place behind Ingolstadt. Berlin ranks third, ahead of Würzburg and Regensburg.
