Podcast advertising platform Julep closes seed financing

The Munich-based startup Julep, a provider of podcast marketing, production, and distribution, has successfully completed a seed financing round. The founders, management, and the seed round have already invested a total of seven-figure sums in the young company.

Julep was able to convince Defacto X (Jan Möllendorf, Claus Schuster) and several private investors as new investors: Andreas Wiele, former Axel Springer board member and former Gruner + Jahr manager, Feliks Eyser, himself the founder of several startups (including RegioHelden, which was acquired by Ströer), Cellular founder Birger Veit and Marcus Prosch, former press spokesman for Sales & Digital at ProSiebenSat.1.

Marcus Englert, Co-Founder of Julep and former Digital Executive Board member of Prosiebensat.1, explains:

"We are very pleased with the trust our new investors have placed in us. This financing round is an important milestone that will enable us to drive our growth in Germany."

With its three brands Julep Media, Julep Studios, and Julep Hosting, the young German podcast provider offers all aspects of podcast marketing from a single source. The startup also serves publishers and media companies as a secondary marketer. Interview with Munich Startup explained Steffen Hopf, Managing Director of Julep Media, recently:

"There are a multitude of podcasts, and new ones are being added every day. But many podcasters are unable to adequately capitalize on their work. Our goal is to democratize the podcast market. We want to give every podcaster the opportunity to monetize their content."

Sport1 was a launch partner in February, and several podcasts from Burda are now also being marketed by Julep. In addition, the platform It also has its own podcasts, such as "Schwarze Akte" and "Wie war dein Date," which were launched in May. With around 120 podcasters, the startup claims to offer the advertising industry more than five million marketable streams per month.
