The Munich-based startup Artmasters is a platform for creative events. Founded in 2016 by Oliver Breiter and Alexander Eloe, Artmasters also uses YouTube tutorials to teach people who haven't had much experience with painting how to create a work of art. Real artists guide you step by step through the process. We wanted to know what's behind it, so we asked founder Oliver Breiter our 7 questions.
Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do?
Oliver Breiter, Artmasters: We are Alex (40) and Oliver (43) from Artmasters in Munich. We both have industrial engineering degrees and met while working at Adidas in Herzogenaurach in 2006. Since then, we've been in constant contact and soon realized that self-employment would bring us together again someday.
Artmasters is a platform for creative events in bars and restaurants, YouTube creative tutorials, and creative supplies. Our core business is painting on canvas and/or jute bags. At these events, participants take home their own artwork at the end of the evening—with no prior experience required, under the guidance of an artist.
We also organize more and more Exclusive events for corporate and private celebrations, run their own YouTube channel and sell creative supplies.

Artmasters: Platform for creative events
Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!
Oliver Breiter: That's right, it's been around since we were founded in Germany in 2016 — so for more than three years now.
Munich Startup: What are the three main ingredients for your recipe for success?
Creativity — sorry, that had to be said — ambition and a lot of humor.
Munich Startup: Let’s get to the point: How is business going?
We currently host approximately 200 events per month throughout Germany and Hungary, and the number is steadily increasing.
“Very lively startup scene”
Munich Startup: What does Munich mean to you?
Oliver Breiter: That depends on which of us you ask: For me, Nuremberg is and always will be the most beautiful city in the world. However, since I've been a regular visitor to Munich, I have to admit that the beer garden culture there, in particular, is pretty good.
Joking aside, we both agree that Munich has a lot to offer as a location, especially a very vibrant startup scene. A lot has happened here in recent years. In particular, our office in Plant1 And the network there has helped us a lot in many areas. Since we both enjoy being in the mountains, this is naturally also a personal advantage.
The unicorns are available in the creative portfolio
Munich Startup: How can your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we see you soon at Epic Fail Night?
Oliver Breiter: We already have unicorns in our creative portfolio, so we can paint them. And for the other one, we're keeping it classic: We'll see!
Munich Startup: Tea or coffee?
Oliver Breiter: Coffee for me. Alex prefers rhubarb juice spritzer.
