OrbemSince January 2022, no day-old chicks may be killed in Germany because of their sex. Male chicks, which have no use in the egg industry, may no longer be shredded. To prevent them from being hatched in the first place, the Munich-based startup Orbem combines imaging technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with artificial intelligence. With its solution, chicken eggs can be classified before chicks even hatch. However, AI-assisted MRI technology can also be used to scan other biological samples such as food, plant species, building materials, and the human body. AI ensures that MRI procedures are faster, which makes them interesting not only for a number of previously untapped markets but also for investors. The startup, which was a tenant in the Gate from July 2020 to December 2022, was only able to obtain a Series A financing round in the amount of 30 million euros. (Photo: Orbem)
