Julep announces acquisition

Julep is changing hands: The Munich-based startup is being sold to the US podcast hosting network Libsyn. The sales price was not disclosed. The management remains unchanged for the time being.

Julep is a provider for the marketing, production, and distribution of podcasts. Founded in 2019, the startup was able to successful seed financing and now announces the takeover by Libsyn, an American "Podcasting as a Service" platform that enables creators to host, distribute, monetize, and measure their audio content. With this move, Libsyn aims to lay the groundwork for Julep's international expansion in Europe, with Germany remaining the platform's core market. The management team, with Steffen Hopf as CEO and Christian Rymarenko as COO, will also remain unchanged.

Julep was founded by a team of founders including Marcus Englert, Sebastian Weil, and Björn Jopen. Other shareholders of Julep Media include the investment unit of the Rheinische Post Media Group, RPM Invest, the Müller Medien family of companies, and private investors such as Andreas Mayer, Andreas Wiele, and Feliks Eyser. All previous Julep investors will also become shareholders of Libsyn and participate in the company's further development.

“Continuation of the success story”

Marcus Englert, Co-Founder of Julep, says about the current acquisition:

"Developing and building one of the leading platforms for podcast advertising in Germany in less than three years is an enormous success, for which I would like to sincerely thank the two managing directors, Steffen Hopf and Christian Rymarenko, and the entire Julep team. I am also delighted that Julep's entire investor base will participate in the continuation of this success story as future shareholders of Libsyn."

Future of Podcast Marketing: Technology and Automation

Brad Tirpak, CEO Libsyn, says:

"We couldn't imagine a better way to enter the European market than to kick off our German debut with Julep. The entire team has made fantastic progress since its founding, focusing precisely on the areas we see as the future of podcast marketing: technology and automation. The podcast advertising market is still in its infancy in Europe, and it's a great opportunity to further develop it together with Julep."

And Steffen Hopf, CEO Julep, says:

"The new partnership with Libsyn takes us to a whole new level. From our founding, we have never lost sight of internationalization as an important milestone for our continued development and have already laid the groundwork for this with regard to our platform technology. With its expertise in the American podcast market, which is several years ahead of the European one, Libsyn comes at exactly the right time for us to continue our chosen growth path internationally."
