Munich startups win big at The Spark

Ororatech and Teleclinic founder Katharina Jünger were honored at The Spark – The German Digital Award. The competition, initiated by Handelsblatt and McKinsey, annually honors innovative startups.

For the sixth time, The Spark – The German Digital Prize was awarded to innovative companies whose ideas, in the jury's opinion, have the potential to fundamentally and sustainably transform markets. This year, under the motto "Net Zero Tech," the awards honored startups that are taking an important step toward climate neutrality.

The Spark: Ororatech wins the final

10 companies were selected for the final, including OroratechThe Munich-based startup has developed a forest fire warning app that combines heat measurements from satellites with local weather data or camera systems for any location in the world, searches for fire sources, and sends warnings to users upon request. According to the company, the platform is already being used by customers, including fire departments and authorities in Canada and Australia, forest owners in Chile and Brazil, as well as insurance companies and NGOs. In the future, urban planners will also be able to use the app, for example, to locate particularly hot regions in metropolitan areas and compare the data with archives. As the startup recently announced, A fleet of small satellites will be launched into space in early 2022, which uses infrared cameras to detect temperature anomalies with high temporal and spatial resolution. This mission is funded by a successful Series A financing round, which the Munich startup successfully completed in June this year.

Katharina Jünger receives the Female Founder Award

The Spark also presented the Female Founder Award. This award recognizes female founders who, as digital pioneers, encourage more women to take the step into starting a business. This award also went to Munich, namely Teleclinic founder Katharina JüngerThe startup has a Online health platform through which patients can speak to specialists from anywhere. In their view, the Munich-based founder has done pioneering work in telemedicine, which is paying off during the coronavirus pandemic.
