Innovation competition: New solutions for municipal issues

For the fourth time, the City of Munich is launching an innovation competition in the field of smart cities. Students, founders, and startups are invited to develop innovative solutions to municipal challenges.

The most convincing solution approach from among all entries to the innovation competition will be awarded the Innovation Prize. Together with the city administration and one of the four Munich Entrepreneurship Centers of Munich's universities – UnternehmerTUM, Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship, LMU Entrepreneurship Center and Founders@UniBW – the winners develop their idea further and can test it in practice.

Innovation competition aims to modernize public administration

The aim of the competition is to open up public administration to innovation and provide opportunities for the implementation and testing of new approaches in a real, urban test field. Proposals are sought for solutions to five specific urban challenges: "Visit Munich – Simply Sustainable!", "Emission-Free Mobility in Munich," "Improving Data on Stationary and Moving Traffic," "FlexibleWorking@LHM," and "Pilot Project for the Digitization of NO2 Measurements."

For each challenge, the participants with the best solutions will be invited to present their ideas to a jury. All finalists will receive a prize of 500 euros.

The jury selects the most promising solution approach, which is awarded the Innovation Prize. Upon completion of the implementation phase, the winners receive an additional cash prize of €1,500.

The application deadline for the innovation competition is May 15, 2021. The finalists will be selected in early June and invited to present their work to the jury on Thursday, July 22, 2021. The winners for each topic will be honored that same evening.
