The city of Munich is launching its third Smart Cities Innovation Competition. Students, founders, and the startup community are invited to submit their innovative ideas by May 31, 2020.
Due to current developments, the City of Munich's Smart Cities Innovation Competition is offering all interested parties an extended application period until May 31, 2020. This will benefit those who haven't yet found time to apply in the current unusual situation. However, there are certainly also many startups that weren't part of the target group in February but are now (having to) reorient themselves due to the coronavirus crisis. At the same time, new innovative ideas are emerging in light of the current challenges, which the Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft would also like to consider.
What ideas is the Smart Cities 2020 innovation competition looking for?
The Health topic “Preclinical patient management through reliable initial assessment” is more topical than ever, but the other advertised topics are still relevant:
In addition to solutions for the healthcare sector, the Smart Cities Innovation Competition is looking for ideas around Blockchain and climate neutrality. This means that the city is open to any solutions and ideas that enable a climate-neutral Munich in 2030/2035. Other specific questions and topics include: How can blockchain be used in municipal administration? How can gamification help employees behave in an energy-saving manner?
Testing ideas in a real urban test field
The innovation competition for “Smart Cities” aims to open up the administration to innovation. Therefore, startups can submit their solutions to the specified municipal issues. The most convincing solution approach will be awarded the Innovation Prize. The innovation will then be tested in a real, urban test field together with the city administration and one of the four cooperating Munich entrepreneurship centers (UnternehmerTUM, Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship (SCE), LMU Entrepreneurship Center, and Founders@UniBW).
Previous winning teams of the innovation competition included the augmented reality startup Holo-Light, the mobility startup Teratrace and the bike startup Upride (formerly Bike Solutions).
The course of the competition
You can submit solution concepts until May 31, 2020. The best ideas will be selected in June and invited to present to the jury on July 15, 2020. Winners for each topic will be honored at the awards ceremony. A little treat: All ideas that make it to the finals will receive a €500 award.
