Shopping spree 2015: Million-dollar deals for Munich player

Last year, not only did some Munich startups receive financing – there were also some deals in which established Munich companies went on a shopping spree, acquired startups, or invested in promising startups..

While the purchases weren't made "at home," they were made across Germany. Nevertheless, it demonstrates that established companies are tapping into the innovative power of startups. And they're willing to pay a premium for it. We'd like to briefly introduce you to our top three multimillion-dollar deals from 2015.

ProSiebenSat.1 acquires Verivox

The Munich media company ProSiebenSat.1 acquires an 80% stake in the Heidelberg-based comparison service provider Verivox.  For this purpose, the media company 170 million euros on the table. If the figures for 2015 are correct, there will be an additional payment of up to 40 million euros. Verivox reportedly had a turnover of around 60 million euros recently. Rohde & Schwarz buys Sirrix

The Munich-based electronics group Rohde & Schwarz went shopping and took over the Saarbrücken startup Sirrix. The successful start-up offers IT security for companies. In the past four years, it has recorded sales growth of over 380 %. It is rumored that Rohde & Schwarz is responsible for the acquisition. 100 million euros paid. Sirrix was founded in 2005 as a spin-off of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) at Saarland University in Saarbrücken.

Holtzbrinck invests in Caremondo

The Munich-based VC company Holtzbrinck Ventures and several business angels invest a seven-figure sum in the Munich medical startup Caremondo. The startup was founded in late 2014 and positions itself as a "global, digital marketplace for medical tourism." With the financial injection, the company aims to "continue growth and open up new markets."

And because it was so beautiful, the other way around too.

Some of the mega deals from Munich startups

18.5 million euros went to the Med-Tech startup leon-nanodrugs.

Munich-based augmented reality startups are in demand: metaio bought by Apple and Bosch rose Reflect a (Purchase price is not known in each case).
