Established companies and startups strengthen cooperation

Nine out of ten German startups collaborate with established companies. Last year, this figure was fewer than eight out of ten.

In a recent survey by the digital association Bitkom, 90 percent of respondents Startups to cooperate with medium-sized companies and corporations. Just a year ago, this figure was 79 percent. Founders and established companies most frequently develop new products and services together (68 percent). Last year, this figure was 60 percent. In other ways, such as through startup competitions, 59 percent of startups cooperate with traditional companies. In 2019, this figure was 46 percent. Established companies hold a financial stake in 24 percent of the companies surveyed. Last year, only 17 percent reported an investment by a traditional company. The industry association surveyed more than 200 startups.

Established companies and startups benefit from cooperation

"The realization that startups and established companies benefit equally from collaborations is becoming increasingly widespread. Some bring in the latest technology, innovative solutions, and know-how, while others bring in industry experience, contracts, and reference projects,"

says Bitkom President Achim Berg.

“Promoting this direct exchange between founders and established companies is both an active startup and economic development policy.”

The 7 percent of startups surveyed that do not collaborate with other companies at all cite three main reasons for this: lack of budget, lack of contacts and lack of interest in their company from established companies.
