With the Rebowl against packaging waste

The Munich-based startup Recup is expanding its portfolio: In addition to the reusable coffee-to-go cup, the company now also offers Rebowl, a deposit system for reusable takeaway bowls.

First the coffee to go, now takeaway food – Recup wants to change the takeaway system and thus reduce packaging waste. With the Rebowl, they're doing it. The Rebowl deposit system is similarly simple to Recup's. Neither an app nor prior registration is necessary; a deposit of five euros is required. Instead of coffee cups, recyclable deposit bowls will rotate, which Rebowl partner companies dispensed and returned. The partner companies are responsible for washing the bowls.

The reusable trays replace disposable containers and reduce packaging waste with each use. For the end customer, the system offers a simple, sustainable packaging solution for takeaway consumption, eliminating the need to worry about handling and cleaning.

Top priority: usability

At the head of the newly founded business unit Rebowl Niklas Guggenberger and Benjamin Harr are responsible for this. For them, usability is the top priority at Rebowl. Niklas Guggenberger explains:

"We deliberately forgo app registration for our deposit system. The straightforward process combined with a low deposit makes the system accessible to all ages and social classes. And thanks to Recup's existing large network of partners, the Rebowl system now also tackles the mountains of waste from takeaway, delivery, and convenience food packaging."

And Florian Pachaly, Managing Director of Recup, is certain:

"With the successful coffee-to-go revolution, we see it as a logical step to also offer a sustainable alternative to disposable packaging. Therefore, we want to expand our impact and enter the takeaway sector with Rebowl. Especially in these times, it is more important than ever to bring sustainability and waste reduction back onto the agenda."
