Around 2.8 billion disposable cups are used for coffee-to-go in Germany alone every year. This means that after one use, these cups end up directly in the trash. This is disposable waste that can be avoided with a comprehensive and uniform coffee-to-go deposit system. The Munich-based startup Recup has been working on just such a system since September 2016.
How does this deposit system work? How does the company deal with setbacks? And what's missing from Munich as a startup hub? Co-founder Fabian Eckert answers these and other questions for us:
