"Pop-up stores" are probably familiar to everyone by now. These are shops that pop up in the city for a short period of time and then disappear just as quickly. A pop-up house, on the other hand, is probably new to most people—at least in Munich. But one just like that can now be found in a prime downtown location, namely the Ruffinihaus, right on Rindermarkt.
The Ruffinihaus is being touted as Munich's new creative hotspot, as numerous players from the cultural and creative industries will find temporary workspace here between October 2017 and January 2018. Before the complex of buildings on Rindermarkt undergoes a necessary renovation, the City of Munich, as the owner, has decided to make the office space available for temporary use for a good three months.

“The creative industry has arrived in the heart of the city”
The creatives of the interim use in the Ruffinihaus are representatives from all 11 sub-markets of this sector: music industry, book market, film industry, broadcasting industry, performing arts market, art market, architecture market, design industry, press market, advertising market and the software/games industry.
"The creative industry has arrived at the heart of the city. It is a central building block of the city's economic, social, and cultural coexistence, and it guarantees success, cohesion, and vitality in the city. For three months, this energy will be focused with great radiance in the Ruffinihaus. A special feature of the industry is its small-scale nature. The Ruffinihaus consolidates work in niches, project groups, and innovation cells."
explained Jürgen Enninger, Head of the Competence teams for the cultural and creative industries of the City of Munich, which makes interim use possible in cooperation with other municipal departments.
But Munich's startup scene also finds a home here. Both the UnternehmerTUM and the LMU EC have several startups represented in the building. And not without reason, as the goal is to specifically promote cooperation between the cultural and creative industries, technology startups, and the startup scene.
Over the next three months, the entire Ruffinihaus complex, consisting of a group of three buildings located between Rindermarkt and Sendlinger Straße, will be temporarily used for 50 rooms and a total of two floors. Previously, the upper floors housed the Tourism and Europe departments of the Department of Labor and Economic Affairs, as well as the Human Resources and Organization Department of the City of Munich.

The offices have now been moved into, so that the creative successors can now take over. In addition to the traditional shops, which will remain open until January, there is also a pop-up store on the ground floor, which is currently run by HYVE In addition to Icaros and other Hyve startups, it also houses TawnyWhat do the startups hope to achieve from their time at Ruffinihaus? Dr. Michael Bartl, CEO at HYVE, says:
"With our pop-up store in the Ruffinihaus, we want to bring the innovative power of the Munich-based company HYVE closer to people. All visitors have the opportunity to try out visionary products and gain insights into how innovation is developed in a digital world. The HYVE team looks forward to welcoming many curious visitors! Other options include: Whether exploring the virtual world on ICAROS, gaining insight into one's own emotional state with TAWNY, cruising through the city on our Gridboard, or toasting autumn with MyEier – we look forward to welcoming all curious visitors."
And what happens next?
Most of the office spaces have now been occupied and individually designed. Now all creatives can get to work, pursue their creativity, network, and leverage synergies. An "open day" is planned for Thursdays, meaning most office doors will be open to facilitate dialogue between all involved.
In addition, the Ruffini House will be open to the public throughout the entire period. Guided tours of the premises will be offered, and numerous workshops and lectures will take place. Furthermore, the blog inmittenkreativ.de will provide information on everything worth knowing.
