Real Holodeck: GameDeck launches Kickstarter campaign

Virtual reality without glasses: The GameDeck opens to the public this summer. VR enthusiasts can support the project on Kickstarter and secure advance tickets.

We had the opportunity to try out the innovative GameDeck in MarchThe VR experience is scheduled to open to everyone this summer. Until then, however, some final touches are needed, for which the Reality Twist GmbH team is asking the crowd for support on Kickstarter.

The GameDeck combines projections with haptic elements and special effects such as wind and fire. The result is a blend of exit game, 4D cinema, and adventure game. The current game is based on the cinematic adventure "Mara and the Firebringer" by Bernd Das Brot creator Tommy Krappweis. The modular room concept can accommodate both small GameDecks and large dungeons. Up to five people per team are channeled through the various rooms. In one sequence, players must steer a raft by shifting their weight to the correct position.

Thomas Wagner, co-founder of Reality Twist, explains:

“GameDeck can do everything that computer games can do – only with much greater immersion and intensity, almost like real life!”

GameDeck deliberately avoids VR glasses

GameDeck deliberately uses projectors instead of VR headsets, as the founders see significant advantages in this technology given the current state of the art. Above all, it promotes natural interaction among group members. Furthermore, it eliminates the need for specialized equipment, keeping costs within a reasonable range. Clemens Hochreiter of Reality Twist explains the concept:

"Virtual reality headsets are exciting. But locomotion, haptics, and the group experience remain unsolved problems. That's why we developed GameDeck VR."

The project is being carried out by Film Television Fund Bavaria (FFF) sponsored and supported by Kultfabrik Munich, Microsoft Germany and Tommy Krappweis.
