Series A: Avelios Medical secures 30 million euros

Avelios Medical digitizes workflows in hospitals and enables data-driven patient care. The Munich-based company has now secured €30 million in a Series A from Sequoia Capital, as well as its existing investors Revent and Hightech-Gründerfonds (HTGF). With this fresh funding, Avelios aims to advance its mission of becoming the leading operating system for intelligent patient care of the future.

Avelios has set itself the goal of digitalizing and optimizing processes in hospitals. the startup founded in 2020 a complete hospital information system (HIS) has been developed. This operating system for intelligent patient care, which is based on the working practices of doctors and nurses, aims to reduce documentation costs and intelligently network patient data across sector boundaries.

The Munich-based startup's platform covers the full scope of a HIS—from treatment documentation and administrative processes to a patient portal. The platform adheres to the highest data protection and security standards. All data is stored exclusively in highly secure data centers in Europe or directly in the customer's local infrastructure. Thanks to a modular microservice architecture, clinics can flexibly adapt the system to the specific needs of their own facilities and choose between a step-by-step implementation and a one-step transition.

“Not for the faint of heart”

A system, which once again convinces investors: In addition to existing investors Revent and HTGF, Sequoia Capital is also participating in the Series A of over 30 million euros. Anas Biad, Partner at Sequoia Capital, says:

"Developing a complete hospital information system, including documentation, administration, billing, a patient portal, and more, is not for the faint of heart. But that's exactly what Avelios has created. We were amazed by the depth and breadth of the product, as well as the feedback from their customers, who include some of the largest public and private hospitals in Germany. These exceptional founders and their team are delivering the modern operating system our healthcare system deserves."

Avelios is already a central component of several hospitals' digitalization strategies. Sana, one of the largest private hospital chains with 56 facilities, and university hospitals such as the Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital in Munich and the Hannover Medical School rely on Avelios software, including the associated patient portal.

“Long-term thinking and sustainable innovation”

Sequoia Capital's investment provides Avelios with the necessary capital and planning security to further scale its team and continue to support existing and future customers in their transformation into a digital future. Christian Albrecht, co-founder of Avelios, says:

"Sequoia has consciously moved away from the traditional, short-term investment cycle and focuses on companies that solve fundamental problems. The digitalization of patient care requires long-term thinking and sustainable innovation. With Sequoia as our partner, we can deliver exactly that – a future-proof system."
