For the 11th time, Bits & Pretzels brings together founders, investors, industry leaders, and other startup enthusiasts. And anyone worried that the format might seem a bit dated after all these years can rest assured – because compared to previous editions, Bits & Pretzels has changed quite a bit. We share our impressions from the first day of the fair.

Bits & Pretzels 2024
The big players of the future can, of course, be found on every corner at Bits & Pretzels – but they concentrate their expertise on the "Soonicorn & Zebras Stage." The stage highlights the most important trending topics, including deeptech, greentech, and, of course, AI. The panel on artificial intelligence exemplifies the structure of the discussions: moderated by an industry expert (pictured here on the left is Frizzi Engler-Hamm, CEO of the Munich Innovation Ecosystem), founders speak on an equal footing. In this case, Isabel Poppek, CEO and Founder of Alpas, Khaleeq Aziz, Founder & CEO of Genaios, and Max Fischer, Founder & CEO of Deltia.ai, discussed (from left) the question of whether AI can still be developed competitively in the EU. The three painted a mixed picture: While regulations, on the one hand, mean a lot of additional effort that slows down development, on the other hand, they can also bring advantages. They argue that US customers also value European data protection. However, one major stumbling block remains: When it comes to financing, the EU can't compete with the US. (Image: Munich Startup)
