Munich's innovation competition: Smart City solutions sought

The City of Munich is hosting the innovation competition for the seventh time. The goal is to open the city administration to innovative ideas and provide opportunities to test and implement new concepts in a real-world test field.

With its innovation competition, the City of Munich is seeking solutions to a total of five specific challenges in the field of smart cities. The most convincing approaches will be awarded the Innovation Prize and tested in a pilot project.

The 2024 Innovation Competition is looking for ideas on the following five challenges:

  • The cool side of Munich – Routing for footpaths in the shade
  • Digital Welcome Center – AI-supported information portal for new and future Munich citizens
  • Job and recruiting compass for international newcomers
  • Improving the data on stationary traffic
  • Choose Green – promoting energy-efficient mobility routines for Munich

Application deadline is May 15

Students, founders, and creative talents from the startup community can participate in the competition. The submission deadline is May 15. And participation is worthwhile: Each winning team receives prize money of 10,000 euros and an additional implementation budget of up to 15,000 euros as a grant for in-kind contributions. In addition, the UnternehmerTUM, the Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship, the LMU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, the founders@unibw start-up center and the Start2 Group provide support for the implementation phase. 

Applications are accepted in German or English. The presentation to the jury should be in German, and German will also be the working language during the implementation phase.
