Ororatech is a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and is developing a global, satellite-based early warning system for forest fires. Now the Spacetech is extending its partnership with the Seranis mission and making its satellite platform available for an in-orbit demonstration mission. This gives researchers the opportunity to put their ideas into orbit and test their instruments and experiments.
Seranis Seranis is intended to implement, for the first time in Germany, an integrated laboratory environment that combines next-generation mobile communications systems with modern communications satellite networks of the New Space era. As the Bundeswehr's first small satellite mission, Seranis provides the Bundeswehr with access to strategically relevant space technologies. Seranis specifically promotes the involvement of young companies in its mission.
For Ororatech, the joint use of the platforms is a first and according to a LinkedIn post by the startup
"...something we want to continue in the future with our space development team, because this project shows what is possible when satellite developers and scientists work together."
The small satellite mission's experiments include sensors for radiation levels and technologies that track the global migration patterns of birds. These experiments are currently under development and are expected to be operational with a transporter rideshare mission launching in November at the earliest. The projects are intended to contribute to Germany's digital sovereignty, particularly in the areas of digital technologies, climate protection, and the energy transition.
