VDW joins manufacturing platform Spanflug

The Munich-based company Spanflug aims to automate processes in the manufacturing industry. Founded in 2018, the company uses a platform to connect customers with suppliers. The German Machine Tool Builders' Association (VDW) has now acquired a stake in the company. Details of the investment are not known.

The manufacturing platform von Spanflug Technologies specializes in CNC turned and milled parts. It offers customers an automated procurement process, from price calculation to ordering in the online shop. Using a proprietary algorithm, the customer is immediately shown the price and delivery time upon request. Company founder Markus Westermeier says:

"The VDW brings extensive industry expertise and is therefore the ideal partner for us on this journey. Since we began discussions, we have increasingly benefited from the VDW's network and the close exchange with the machine tool industry."

According to the company, more than 1,000 customers order components on the platform. More than 70 manufacturing companies from Germany and Austria are managed there.

Spanflug technology “leading in international competition”

“We evaluated Spanflug’s solution with some of our members and found that the technology is internationally competitive in the analysis and cost calculation of CNC parts,”

says Wilfried Schäfer, Managing Director of the VDW.

"This investment offers great potential, both for our member companies and their customers, as well as for the entire mechanical and plant engineering sector in Germany. The goal is to secure the long-term competitiveness of the German manufacturing industry through the use of Spanflug technology and the associated efficiency gains."

The company intends to use the capital raised to advance the development of its platform technology.
