Former Sky board member joins Content Bay

Content Bay is building a marketplace for program content that leverages machine learning. This will enable audiovisual content to be traded more efficiently and precisely. Holger Enßlin, former board member of Sky Deutschland, is participating in a seed round of the young company.

Content Bay claims its database contains information on virtually all entertainment video content ever produced over the past 70 years. This allows program buyers to search through millions of titles. The Munich-based company aims to enable rights holders to market their content worldwide.

"Using cutting-edge machine learning techniques and predictive analytics, we evaluate and catalog billions of data sets on titles, platforms, and socio-geographic details, as well as the content itself. No one but us has such comprehensive information on all content ever produced. And it is our ambition to include all audiovisual content that we don't yet have in the future. Users of our marketplace can analyze, rate, and trade millions of titles worldwide by keywords, genres, availability, and many other criteria at the touch of a button—more comprehensively and many times faster than was previously possible."

says Content Bay co-founder and Managing Director Oliver Skelton.

"Thanks to our innovative similarity analysis and additional video recognition, buyers receive suggestions for, for example, lower-priced alternatives to blockbuster series that they previously hadn't even considered, but that perform just as well for their target audience on their own platform. Content providers receive a completely new 'shop window' for all their content thanks to our platform's comprehensive analysis capabilities, thus creating additional demand."

Content Bay gives “market participants a complete overview of all available content”

Former Sky Deutschland board member Holger Enßlin and Christian Unterseer of Cataneo are now supporting the company as seed investors. A number of other media professionals are also among the minds behind the startup. Holger Enßlin says:

"Content Bay's vision immediately convinced me. While data-driven and algorithm-based content recommendation systems have long been standard on the viewer side of streaming platforms and media libraries, in the B2B segment, the search, evaluation, and trading of this content have been more or less unchanged for decades. Gut feeling often still reigns supreme in a costly and inefficient 'closed shop' environment. Demand for new content is growing rapidly, but there is a lack of available and suitable tools to find and license the right content beyond trade shows and phone calls. Unlike existing marketplaces for content owners that merely use the internet as a new sales channel, we provide market participants with a complete overview of all available content."

Content Bay's analytics tool is already functional and ready for use. The content marketplace based on it is scheduled to go live in summer 2022.
