'Brandmeyer City Brand Monitor': Munich is the second most popular city in Germany

The 'Brandmeyer City Brand Monitor' surveyed 10,000 people on their perceptions of Germany's 50 largest cities. Munich ranks second behind Hamburg as the most popular city in Germany.

For the 'Brandmeyer City Brand Monitor,' 10,000 adults in Germany were surveyed on various dimensions of their perception of German cities. Among other things, respondents' liking for the 50 largest cities, their reputation, their attractiveness, and how much they could imagine moving to a city were assessed. From the answers, the study calculates an overall score for the cities' brand strength. Hamburg ranks first with 7.7 points, followed by Munich with 7.2, Freiburg with 7.0, Berlin and Cologne with 6.9 points each. The average score for all cities is 5.7 points.

Munich in the top group across all age groups

Among younger respondents up to 29 years of age, a similar picture emerges as in the overall sample: Hamburg ranks first, with Munich in second. However, among the younger group, Cologne, Berlin, and Frankfurt follow. Those aged 30 to 49 also prefer Hamburg to Munich. Cologne ranks third, ahead of Freiburg and Nuremberg. Berlin is only sixth in this group. Only among those over 50 does a somewhat different picture emerge, with Freiburg taking second place behind Hamburg, with Munich following in third place, ahead of Lübeck and Berlin.

The Bavarian state capital also documented in the individual sub-dimensions of the Brandmeyerstudy relatively consistently ranked at the top. Munich takes first place in the survey regarding the perception of being an economically strong city.
