Apply now for the Bayern 3 Startup Challenge

In the Bayern 3 Startup Challenge, initiated by Bayern 3, BR24, and Munich investor Christopher Obereder, young startups can win up to €300,000. Applications are open until November 6th.

With the Bayern 3 Startup Challenge, investor Christopher Obereder is searching for startups with visions, development potential, and products that promise true innovation. After an initial analysis of the applicants, approximately 20 will be selected in November 2020 and presented on Bayern 3's program and the online information platform BR24. They will be required to present themselves to the audience in various phases.

The process

In the first phase, the participating startups introduce themselves in short audio clips on Bayern 3's radio program. As in all phases, Christopher Obereder decides who advances. Bayerischer Rundfunk has no say in the process. In the next round, two startups compete against each other on the "Frühaufdreher" show. There will also be an audience vote, but this only serves to gauge public opinion and has no influence on the investor's decision. The semifinals and final, in which the winner of the Bayern 3 Startup Challenge will be determined, will follow at the end of November. Multiple startups can receive an investment.

The prizes include support and a total of €300,000 from investor Christopher Obereder. The investment can be made in one or divided among several startup companies. The minimum investment per company is €50,000.

The investor

Christopher Obereder, also known as "Startup Chris," is an investor and serial entrepreneur. As such, he has built numerous startups, from games to social media to communications, which has even earned him a spot on Forbes' "30 Under 30" list. He is currently involved in 20 startups. Originally from Germany, Obereder now advises and invests in startups in Silicon Valley.

The application

All startups founded since September 1, 2017 can apply bayern3.de apply and present their idea. The prerequisite is that the startups are based in Bavaria or at least have a connection to the Free State, for example, through the founders' biographies. Furthermore, no startups will be selected whose offerings are unsuitable for the underage listeners of Bayerischer Rundfunk due to youth protection laws.
