The WFP Innovation Challenge 2021 is looking for startups working on solutions to sustainably transform food systems and food chains. The fact that 690 million people still suffer from hunger demonstrates that existing systems are not working.
We are looking for bold ideas on the following topics:
- Resilient food systems: Solutions that enable communities to better recover from conflicts, natural disasters, pandemics, political unrest, and the like.
- Safe and nutritious food systems: Solutions that increase the availability of nutritious food and make food production more affordable and accessible.
- Inclusive food systems: Solutions that promote equitable livelihoods by supporting smallholder farmers and local food producers.
Application deadline is May 31
You can apply for the challenge until May 31Selected teams will then be invited to the virtual Innovation Bootcamp from August 30 to September 3, 2021. After the bootcamp, these startups can apply for the WFP Sprint Programme, which offers up to $100,000 in funding, hands-on support, access to WFP-Network with expert knowledge from mentors and training.
Only companies already operating in the market, whether for-profit or non-profit, are eligible to participate. The innovation must have at least a minimum viable product (MVP). Proof of concept and initial sales are desirable. The application must also clearly demonstrate how the collaboration with the WFP supports the company's long-term strategy.
