'We're going online': Campaign digitizes Munich retailers

An action by the state capital Munich, the ReDI School and UnternehmerTUM helped 21 small businesses in Munich affected by the Corona crisis to set up an online solution — in just 24 hours.

The 'Mia gehn online' campaign aims to help businesses develop online solutions so they can continue to generate revenue even during the crisis. From 100 applications, 25 project teams were formed, and 21 new online solutions were implemented, including online shops, user-optimized websites and payment systems, and online social media presences. 300 experts from marketing, communications, retail, IT, digitalization, and law responded to a call and supported the initiative with their expertise.

Clemens Baumgärtner, Minister for Labor and Economic Affairs of the City of Munich, says:

"'Mia go online' shows how helpful partners from a large network can quickly and easily bring know-how to where it is most urgently needed."

"The response we received from our community was tremendous. Teams worked on concrete solutions for small businesses, while other experts—including ReDI students—answered questions in over 25 topic channels, from social media to e-commerce, design, legal issues, and GDPR,"

says Sophie Jonke, co-initiator of the campaign and director of the ReDI School in Munich.

“We are especially pleased that ReDI students also had the opportunity to help in Munich and give something back.”

The implemented projects include a new website for a flower shop in Schwabing, an online ordering system for a restaurant in the Isarvorstadt district, and online solutions for a goldsmith, a children's furniture store, a gift shop, and a beauty salon.

"Our goal was to find concrete solutions. We have achieved this and helped affected small businesses to at least partially free themselves from their difficult situation and hopefully already convert the first euro digitally today,"

says Christian Mohr, co-initiator of 'Mia go online' and Managing Partner at UnternehmerTUM.

“Now we want to encourage other retailers to get started and use our results.”
