Digital Planning and Construction Competition

As part of the ICT funding program (information and communication technology) Two innovative joint projects focusing on digital planning and construction are to be funded. Applications can be submitted until June 30, 2019.

The program was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi) and the Center for Digitalization Bavaria (ZD.B). The targeted funding amount per joint project is approximately €350,000 to €500,000, with a maximum funding rate of 50 percent of the eligible costs.

Who can apply?

Participating projects must be implemented in Bavaria, have a duration of two to three years, and consist of at least two partners. Furthermore, at least one company must be involved in the project consortium. The competition is particularly aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises. However, universities, colleges, and non-university research institutions are also permitted to participate in a project.

What thematic focus?

All submitted projects should be thematically classified into one or more of the following areas:

  • Digital twin in the planning, construction and operation of buildings
  • Quality assurance and rule-based review of BIM models
  • BIM Collaboration, BIM to Field and Common Data Environments in project management
  • Digital technologies for building in existing structures – BIM-supported simulations and analyses
  • Digital construction production (design to fabrication)
  • Sustainable handling of construction materials – from tendering to recycling
  • Digital tools for early phases of building design
  • Blockchain technologies in digital construction processes
  • Artificial Intelligence in Construction

In addition, the framework conditions of the ICT funding program be fulfilled.

What is expected from the project outline?

All project consortia wishing to apply for funding must present their innovative research project in a project outline of no more than 12 pages. Project outlines must be submitted as a single PDF file to the ZD.B office at projektantrag@zd-b.de with the subject "Project Application_Title_ZD.B-Iuk_DPB_2019." The Iuk program provides a template for the outline. The application deadline is June 30, 2019.

Who chooses the winners?

All submitted applications will be evaluated by a selection committee at the ZD.B office. The ICT program's project sponsor will review technical and business details. The StMWi will then select the winners of the Digital Planning and Construction competition.
