TimeRide wins Bavarian Founders' Prize

Munich-based TimeRide GmbH is the winner of this year’s Bavarian Founders’ Award in the category conceptThe entertainment startup develops and operates virtual reality time travel as a completely new type of attraction in German city centers.

Managing Director Jonas Rothe accepted the award at the Bavarian Entrepreneurs' Conference in Nuremberg. The combination of modern technology with haptic elements allows for an emotional experience of history. The first concept store, opened in Cologne in fall 2017, is already a real crowd-puller. Marlies Mirbeth, Head of Sales at Stadtsparkasse München — co-initiator of the Bavarian Founders’ Award — is delighted for the young company from the state capital:

"Jonas Rothe and his interdisciplinary team of art historians, cultural scientists, IT developers, and marketing experts have recreated 1910s Cologne with great attention to detail. This innovative idea not only delights visitors and the press but also won us over from the start. We are delighted that TimeRide GmbH has now been honored with the Bavarian Founders' Prize for their outstanding work."

Historical scenarios you can touch

Founded in Munich in September 2017, TimeRide GmbH has been implementing a new concept for urban history exhibitions using modern multimedia technology. The product, TimeRide VR, uses the latest virtual reality technology to present historical scenarios to customers. By experiencing the authentically reconstructed scenarios in a retail setting, the virtual journey through time conveys historical knowledge in a low-threshold and emotional way.

At its first location in Cologne, the young startup is offering a virtual journey back in time to the cathedral city over a hundred years ago. Using virtual reality, visitors to TimeRide VR experience old Cologne during the Wilhelminian era up close.
