For the German Startup Monitor 2024 A total of 1,828 startups were surveyed last year. To better understand the challenges, needs, and perspectives currently facing startups in Germany—and especially in Munich—the DSM needs input from as many founders as possible. Meaningful survey results will help raise the visibility of the German startup scene's interests in politics and sustainably improve the framework conditions for startups.
Published annually, the DSM was first conducted in 2013 and is the most comprehensive study of the startup landscape in Germany. It serves as the most important source of information for the public and policymakers, and with it, the Startup Association provides key impetus for the further development of the ecosystem.
Result 2024: Difficult times
The 2024 edition of the DSM showed that the challenging overall economic situation also affected startups. While the number of employees has increased continuously in recent years, the number fell from 18.9 to 16.7. The proportion of female startup founders also declined, from 20.7 percent to 18.8 percent. At the same time, more than half of startups (50.7 percent) rated their financing situation as negative.
