German Startup Monitor: Your input is needed

The German Startups Association (Bundesverband Deutsche Startups eV) wants to know how the startup landscape in Germany is doing and is collecting feedback from those who should know: startup founders and executives. The results will then be published in the German Startup Monitor (DSM). The survey for the DSM 2023 is now open.

For the German Startup Monitor 2022, 1,976 startups were surveyed last year, 8 percent of which were from Munich, with the majority from Berlin (19.1 percent). To understand the challenges and expectations facing startups nationwide – but also regionally, such as in Munich – the input of as many founders as possible is essential for the DSM. Meaningful results from this survey will help bring the concerns of the startup scene onto the political agenda and improve the framework conditions for founders.

The Opinion poll is anonymous and takes approximately 10-15 minutes. In addition to topics such as diversity, financing, and politics, this year's DSM is also focusing on university-based startup support and generative AI.

In the last year German founders were relatively satisfied with their startup ecosystem: 67.7 percent rated it as good or very good. In Munich, 72.4 percent were satisfied with the ecosystem, and in Berlin, 81.0 percent. Berlin and Munich were described in the report as "true hotspots" and used as a benchmark for the German startup scene as a whole. However, the participating startups did not rate everything positively; 34.5 percent of respondents cited the difficulty of finding suitable staff as a key challenge. In the two previous years, this figure was 26.6 percent and 17.0 percent, respectively.
