Tenum AI: Custom software applications faster & cheaper

Tenum AI, founded in 2023 by Jochen Guck and Federico Zuluaga-Knorr, specializes in the development of customized SaaS applications. With its 'Tenum Core' platform, companies can create customized software applications not only faster but also at significantly lower costs. Learn more about the business model and the challenges the young company has already faced in this interview.

Munich Startup: Tenum AI, what does your startup do? What problem do you solve?

Tenum AI: Our platform enables companies to develop custom software applications up to ten times faster and at a fraction of the previous cost. The problem we solve: Companies often face time- and resource-intensive tasks when they need customized software. Tenum AI We reduce these hurdles of traditional software development by automating and abstracting complex development steps.

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Tenum AI: Yes and no, there are many providers in the field of AI-driven software development – but Tenum AI is different. Our core technology, developed over the past four years, stands out due to its unique abstraction layer, which enables AI agents to deliver significantly better results than competing solutions. Once developed, components never need to be reprogrammed, and all applications on Tenum are automatically compatible.

In the long term, we also want to create a marketplace where we operate as a technology provider, specifically for customized software solutions. Taken together, this gives us a clear competitive advantage and sets new standards in software development.

Founded from a “frustrating aha moment”

Munich Startup: What is your founding story?

Tenum AI: The idea for Tenum AI arose from a frustrating aha moment: We ourselves were repeatedly faced with the challenge of developing complex software solutions, which was often unnecessarily time-consuming and expensive and felt like reinventing the wheel every time.

We realized there had to be a better way. With this vision in mind, we combined our expertise in software development and entrepreneurship to create Tenum Core—a platform that fundamentally reimagines the way software is created.

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Tenum AI: One of our biggest challenges was defining the point at which our product reached the necessary maturity to present it to the public. This involved striking the right balance between innovation and usability.

Equally challenging was explaining the value of our complex technology in a way that everyone could understand. This balance of technical depth and clear communication took some iterations and nerves, but ultimately significantly strengthened our product and our message.

“In five years, we see Tenum AI as a global PaaS provider”

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Tenum AI: In a year, we aim to establish ourselves as a serious technology alternative in the market and demonstrate this through projects already in development. This applies particularly to freelancers and agencies working with SMEs.

In five years, we envision Tenum AI as a global PaaS provider, empowering companies worldwide to implement digital innovations efficiently and cost-effectively, regardless of their technical expertise.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Tenum AI: Munich offers us exactly what we need: access to tech enthusiasts, established companies, and a dynamic startup scene. UnternehmerTUM and other local initiatives offer great support.

Munich Startup: Risk or security?

Tenum AI: As a startup, risk is simply part of our business – it's the foundation for innovation. At the same time, security is our promise to our customers: stable, efficient, and high-quality solutions that facilitate the path to digital transformation.
