Fly cheaper with your student ID – 7 questions for… Flyla!

The Munich startup FLYLA is a platform for discounted airline tickets — exclusively for students. Founder Fabian Höhne answered our 7 questions.

1. Who are you? Please introduce yourselves briefly!

We are Frederic, 21, a business information systems specialist from Munich, and I am Fabian, 24, an industrial engineer from Cologne. We met at the TU Investment Club, a student initiative at Munich universities.

Cheaper flights for students

2. What product do you want to use to change the world?

It's quite simple: we sell discounted airline tickets to students. We receive surplus tickets from the airlines at a significant discount.

3. But that's been around for a long time!

STA Travel or Student Universe often spring to mind. However, due to outdated systems, these often don't offer dynamically adjusted online prices, which is where our innovative system comes in. We can also authenticate students in real time. Ultimately, this creates a more attractive offer for students.

Challenging: Negotiations with airlines

4. What has been your biggest challenge so far?

The negotiations and agreements with the airlines took longer than expected. We're now all the more pleased to be able to offer an exclusive deal on Flyla.

5. Let’s get down to business: How is business going?

Things are really exciting right now. We went live with our first airline partner on October 16th and currently have to get student demand under control. 🙂

6. What does Munich mean to you?

We both enjoy the quality of life Munich has to offer, as well as the city's balance of clarity and size. The startup scene is very large, yet manageable, so you'll find help at every turn. Frederic naturally feels at home in his hometown, and as a Rhinelander, I do too.

7. Hiking or beer garden?

Clearly, hiking is the best way to reward yourself on the mountain pasture after climbing the summit. 😉
