Teleclinic founder launches new healthtech VC Yzr

Reinhard Meier, co-founder of the Munich-based health tech startup Teleclinic, has launched the venture capital firm Yzr together with venture capital expert Markus Feuerecker. The new Munich-based venture capital firm's first fund is invested at €100 million.

With Yzr, the two founders invest in healthtech startups. The focus is primarily on companies that increase the efficiency and transparency of healthcare systems, simplify healthy living, or enable continuous change for better healthcare. Yzr seeks pre-seed, seed, and Series A investment opportunities across Europe and offers founders not only capital but also healthcare-specific expertise. The investor has been active since the end of 2021 and has now announced the first closing of its first fund.

Yzr’s first fund has a target volume of 100 million euros, 60 percent of which is Handelsblatt The investment has already been secured. Investors include the European Investment Fund, Bertelsmann Investments, Beiersdorf, various family offices, and industrial and tech entrepreneurs. The name Yzr (pronounced "Waiser") is intended to be a synthesis of the English words "wise" and "Isar," reflecting the expertise of the founders and their team as well as their roots in the Munich ecosystem.

From Teleclinic to Yzr

The medical doctor Prof. Dr. Reinhard Meier founded Teleclinic in 2015 together with Katharina Jünger and Patrick Palacín. The startup has a Online health platform launched, allowing patients to speak with specialists from anywhere. At the beginning of the Corona crisis, Teleclinic saw significant growth in usage figures. The exit took place in the summer of 2020, and the startup was acquired by the Swiss Zur Rose GroupDuring this time, Meier continued to work in radiology, including at the Klinikum rechts der Isar, the Isar Klinikum, and most recently at the Westpfalz Klinikum. With his exit from Teleclinic, he then began his career as an investor.

Yzr co-founder Markus Feuerecker, in turn, is a venture capital expert with over 10 years of experience. Most recently, he was Vice President of DPE Deutsche Private Equity. The team receives further advice from various founders such as Max-Josef Meier (Finn) and Vlad Lata (Konux, Avi Medical) and former CEOs from the healthcare industry.

In addition to its fund business, Yzr also operates as a non-profit limited liability company (UG). Through this, the founders organize non-profit projects in the medical field. The first project implemented in this way helps deliver medical and other relief supplies to Ukraine, which are often not covered by traditional donations in kind. Yzr says it has already delivered five ambulances and over 240 tons of relief supplies in this way.
