As part of the accelerator program, IDnow is working with the umbrella organization and its members, providing expertise in identity verification, digital identities, and the associated regulatory requirements. The goal of this cooperation is to make flying more convenient and straightforward for passengers. At the same time, it aims to minimize fraud risks for airlines.
The Munich-based startup was founded in 2014 by Dennis von Ferenczy, Sebastian Bärhold, Armin Bauer and Felix Haas and specializes in identity verification solutions such as auto- and video identification and electronic signatures.
Easier travel through digitization of entry controls
As part of the program Accelerate@IATA IDnow is intended to contribute to the One-ID working group. The goal here is to simplify travel through the digitalization of entry controls and contactless processes using secure biometric identification. The One-ID vision envisions passengers only having to undergo a digital document check once before their journey. They will then be able to complete all touchpoints at the airport using biometrics alone, without further document verification. The stated goal of the working group is to create a compatible, global system for airports, airlines, and governments.
As a member of the IATA Think Tank, IDnow is working with airlines and other technology providers on a white paper on the application of digital identity in the aviation industry. In parallel, a proof of concept for people with reduced mobility is being developed. This will demonstrate how digital identity can support travel in such cases and how airlines and airports can staff accordingly.
“Digital identities hold great potential in the aviation industry”
"We are delighted that IDnow is contributing to the industry discussions. IDnow brings expertise in secure, decentralized digital identity that will support the aviation industry on its journey toward better customer centricity,"
says Kat R. Morse, Senior Manager Innovation, Partnerships and Events at IATA.
"Digital identities hold great potential for a new travel experience in the aviation industry. The benefits of this approach range from minimizing airlines' fraud risk to generating a seamless customer experience to providing a GDPR-compliant solution for storing and sharing biometric images between different airports and different players."
says Michael A. Binner, Director Digital Identity at IDnow.
