The Magazino GmbH was founded in 2012 by Frederik Brantner (Commercial Managing Director), Lukas Zanger (Technical Director) and Nikolas Engelhard (Head of Software Development). The rapidly growing team, with diverse skills—from years of experience in mechanical engineering to doctoral degrees in robotics, research in image processing, and a professorship in combinatorial optimization—is working intensively on the development of disruptive robotics solutions.

Originally founded as a project of the Technical University of Munich, Magazino, now based in Laim commercial yard, still maintains close contact with Germany's famous technology company. Since its founding, the startup has repeatedly been Award winners various competitions, including the Bavarian business plan competition evobis, bestofmunich and the idea challenge.

Co-founder Frederik Brantner took the time Munich Startup to answer a few questions about Magazino's career in Munich.
Why did you choose Munich as your location?
Hardware and robotics are a perfect fit for Munich: There are suppliers, investors, and partners like the Technical University of Munich – this density is not found anywhere else in Germany.
What obstacles or setbacks did you face after founding your company? How did you overcome them?
Many things only worked on the second attempt—which means you just have to keep at it and not get discouraged. Things take longer, hardware development is expensive, and sometimes it takes time to convince all partners and investors.

What do you think is the secret behind your success?
Following a clear vision in a large market with a great team. We're taking on a tough challenge, but it's worth it.
A tip for founders on how to best implement an idea in order to be successful with it?
Talk to a lot of people about it! So get feedback – that always helps. Don't be afraid to share your idea – in the end, it's just a matter of implementation and inspiration.
What are your company’s plans for the future?
With the shelf robot, we want to become the market leader for piece-precise logistics robots.

Connected to an existing paternoster or AKL, it picks Kado the delivered products automatically and sends them on to the packing station for transport, for example.
