Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem do you solve?
Edrixx: Tips are a crucial source of income in the service industry. But guests/customers increasingly carry little or no cash. Edrixx is a Web App, which enables tipping via Apple Pay/Google Pay or credit card – directly into the service employee's account!
Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!
Edrixx: Not true! We are the first solution focused on digital tipping directly to service employees. Tipping via Edrixx is super easy – touch the NFC tag or scan the QR code, select the tip amount, double-click to confirm payment via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit card – done!
Munich Startup: What is your founding story?
Edrixx: We – the founders of Edrixx – value good service just as much as innovative payment solutions. The two never really worked for us, as service employees often only accepted cash. With Edrixx, we want to give all service employees a simple and affordable way to receive additional tips via mobile phone.
Edrixx: “Germany is still a ‘cash country’”
Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?
Edrixx: Take hairdressers, for example. In the spring, we distributed Edrixx flyers to around 200 hair salons in Munich – including the opportunity to have the tipping process explained to them. Only two salons seized the opportunity. Incidentally, the employees at these two salons have since received significantly more tips than before Edrixx, and they wouldn't want to miss this opportunity anymore!
Tips are obviously a kind of sacred cow, and the subject is taboo. We often hear, "It only works in cash, otherwise the tax office will find out and I'll have to pay taxes..." or "I learned during my training that tips are only tax-free up to an amount of X..." However, none of this is actually true – tips can be as high as you like and are always tax-free for employees, regardless of whether they are paid in cash or digitally. We see a great need for information and catching up here, because Germany is still a "cash country."
Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?
Edrixx: Our goal is for every service provider to understand the term Edrixx and how it works. With the increasing trend toward cashlessness in the service sector, we envision Edrixx being established and used in all service industries within five years. The Edrixx logo stands for easy and direct tipping via mobile phone and is as recognizable as the Visa or Mastercard logo.
Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?
Edrixx: Wonderful – we have already founded other companies in Munich and are very happy here – both in terms of the infrastructure and the climate for innovation.
Munich Startup: Outsource or do it yourself?
Edrixx: Do it yourself! We're all professionals in our field and currently don't outsource anything. However, we still have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to social media – we're looking for support!
