Munich Startup: Who are you and what does Djoon do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!
Djoon: Hi, we're Djoon, and our vision is to give everyone a good feeling when snacking. That's why we've reinvented the praline: super delicious and at the same time Organic, vegan and no added sugar!
Our team consists of Leon (28), Carolin (38), and Martin (39). Carolin and Martin are married and have three children, and they met Leon while looking for a co-founder.
Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?
Djoon: We all love a snack, but unfortunately, conventional sweets are fraught with problems: too much processed sugar, endless ingredient lists, and opaque supply sources, especially when it comes to cocoa. We're changing that: We use only vegan, organic ingredients, a maximum of five ingredients per variety, and everything from sustainable and partner-based sources. But most importantly: our products simply taste delicious, like a true reward (and not like a sacrifice).
Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!
Djoon: There are actually quite a few organic sweets available. But we've set our sights on the pinnacle of chocolate creation: the praline. And there's nothing that can compare to our Djoonies.
Djoon relies on manual production
Munich Startup: Has there ever been a point where you almost failed?
Djoon: One of the most difficult decisions for us was deciding how and where to produce our chocolates. First, we talked to various contract manufacturers, none of whom were either able or unwilling to implement our vision. Then we decided to literally take production into our own hands: and so, last year, our team handcrafted over 100,000 chocolates.
Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?
Djoon: In a year, we aim to triple our production volume and delight even more customers with our chocolates. We'll also be expanding our product range by then (we've been offering Djoon-style spreads since November).
In five years, we want to be a nationally recognized brand for sustainable, healthier, and delicious sweets. We already have some ideas for what else could come!
Munich Startup: How do you rate Munich as a startup location?
Djoon: We love Munich as a startup hub. There are many great and innovative food startups here, with whom we maintain close contact. Furthermore, with the Food Startup Incubator Weihenstephan a unique infrastructure in Germany for food startups to start their first production and expand their network.
Munich Startup: Facebook or TikTok?
Djoon: Facebook – We currently find a large portion of our new customers through Facebook and Instagram. However, we're actually already considering expanding into other social media channels, such as TikTok, to reach new customers and fans there.
