Oczko Stereo: “Fight for every supporter”

Oczko Stereo wanted to revive the forgotten art of stereoscopy, the reproduction of images with the impression of a spatial dimension of depth. To this end, the young company is developing its own 3D cameras. Founder Dominik Oczkowski raised nearly €30,000 through a successful crowdfunding campaign. We interviewed him about his experiences.

Munich Startup: What advice would you give to other founders who are considering launching a crowdfunding campaign?

Oczko Stereo: Certainly, not every idea can be used to successfully implement such a campaign. However, if the project is halfway suitable, Crowdfunding A great thing. Not only do you find the first supporters, but you also gain attention and initial confirmation that the idea works.

Munich Startup: In many crowdfunding campaigns, market testing or marketing are the primary focus, in addition to funding. How was that for you?

Oczko Stereo: It was the same for me: Funding the project demonstrates that there is interest in the idea. But just as important is the attention I was able to generate for my project. Therefore, the numerous newsletter subscribers are very valuable.

Different crowdfunding cultures in different countries

Munich Startup: What experiences did you have during the campaign?

Oczko Stereo: It wasn't easy. After a good start, I had to ask for every single supporter for Oczko Stereo And that worked better in some countries than in others. Regardless of the actual need or interest in the product, there also seem to be different crowdfunding cultures in different countries.

Munich Startup: What are you most proud of about the campaign?

Oczko Stereo: Together with a friend, I tried many different ways to raise awareness of my campaign. The only really effective approach was the traditional one: contacting editors of trade media. I'm proud that some of the largest and most important platforms have published articles about the project.

Munich Startup: How did you benefit from the crowdfunding support from the City of Munich?

Oczko Stereo: The city's generous funding went entirely into the production of the campaign video. Luckily, I knew some great filmmakers from Munich who were interested in the project. The great thing is that, in difficult times, both parties were able to benefit from it.

Oczko Stereo: Driving forward new prototypes

Munich Startup: What lasting effects did the campaign have? And what's next for you?

Oczko Stereo: The goal of the campaign was to finance a laser cutter that would enable me to produce the first rewards, as well as advance the development of new prototypes. The device will actually be installed in my studio in the next few days. I'm very excited to see what else I can create with it!
