Reactive Robotics closes Series C round

The Munich-based medical technology startup Reactive Robotics is developing an intelligent assistance system that supports the early mobilization of intensive care patients. It has now secured funding in the mid-seven-figure range.

Reactive Robotics was founded in 2015 and developed with the “VEMO” system (Very Early Mobilization) intelligent assistance robots for intensive care medicineThey are designed to accelerate recovery and treatment for patients in intensive care units. The system is a robotic exoskeleton that is attached to the patient's bed and secured to the patient's legs by a nurse. The robot then stands the patient upright and performs typical walking movements with them. VEMO enables regular activation of the intensive care patient's leg muscles, which is intended to promote circulation and respiration and prevent muscle and bone deterioration. According to the company, the recovery of intensive care patients with VEMO is accelerated by an average of 20 percent. The system has been in use in several hospitals since 2020.

Alexander König, founder and CEO of Reactive Robotics, says:

"The clinical experience from studies at the Charité, Schön Klinik Bad Aibling, and other hospitals shows us that we are on the right track with our solution. We are very proud to be able to contribute to relieving the burden on nursing staff – especially during the pandemic, but also beyond. Our investors have supported us from the very beginning with their industry experience and the necessary capital to meet our ambitious schedule and obtain the necessary certifications and approvals. We are pleased to continue to have them on board."

Reactive Robotics “has developed impressively”

The current Series C financing round included participation from existing shareholders Bayern Kapital, High-Tech Gründerfonds, Dr. Doll Holding, and TQ Group. Henrik Schunk Beteiligungs-GmbH is a new addition. Reactve Robotics last raised new capital in 2017. Even then, it was a seven-figure investment, the exact amount of which was not disclosed.

George Ried, Managing Director of Bayern Kapital, explains:

"Since our initial investment, Reactive Robotics has developed impressively not only technologically but also commercially, significantly advancing its successful collaboration with hospitals and suppliers. We see the potential for the VEMO system to become the 'standard of care' in the field of early mobilization in the long term. We are therefore very pleased to support the company's further expansion."
