Flixtrain starts in Sweden

The Corona crisis is not yet over, but Flixmobility is going on the offensive: The green trains of Flixtrain will also be running in Sweden next month.

Flixtrain, the railway sister company of Flixbus, will launch in Sweden on May 6. This is the first time the Munich-based company will be operating outside of Germany. The timetable will initially include more than 30 weekly trips between Gothenburg and Stockholm. The green trains will also stop in Södertälje, Hallsberg, Skövde, and Falköping. The Stockholm-based company Hector Rail will be responsible for operational operations in Sweden. Flixtrain will handle network planning, ticket sales, marketing, customer service, and pricing. The carriages are from Talbot Services in Aachen.

In Germany, Flixtrain serves around 25 destinations on the Hamburg–Cologne, Berlin–Cologne, and Berlin–Stuttgart routes. According to the company, it is the first privately owned long-distance train network in Germany. Operations in Germany are scheduled to resume no later than June 24. Tickets can already be booked.

“Sweden is one of the most attractive and exciting markets in Europe for private train operators.”

“Our success shows that passengers want a green, sustainable and modern travel alternative on rail,”

says André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of the parent company Flixmobility.

"Sweden is setting an example of how to enable and promote competition on the railways for the benefit of passengers. The consistent separation of infrastructure and operations, as well as low track access charges and high transparency in track access allocation, enable private providers to launch new, attractive services without unnecessary barriers to entry. Sweden is one of the most attractive and exciting markets in Europe for private rail operators."

Schwämmlein says the success of his company’s business model is based on close and trusting cooperation with medium-sized partners:

“We believe that the combination of our travel tech expertise and operational experience is the basis for an attractive offering.”
