The first series-produced solar electric vehicle (SEV) from Sono Motors is manufactured in Sweden.
How Sono Motors As officially announced, the first generation of the Sion will be produced by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) at the Trollhättan site. The plant there housed the production lines of the car manufacturer Saab.
“Found the right partner”
A total of 260,000 vehicles will initially roll off the production line in Trollhättan over a period of eight years. Production will begin in the second half of 2020. After the ramp-up phase, approximately 43,000 Sion vehicles will be manufactured annually in two-shift operation. Production will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.
“With NEVS we have found the ideal partner for us,”
is Thomas Hausch, Chief Operating Officer of Sono Motors, assured.
"Together, we share the vision of intelligent and resource-efficient mobility. Furthermore, we value the unique expertise of our partner, who combines many years of experience in traditional automotive development and production with proven expertise in electromobility."
Sharing options included
The Sion's innovative vehicle concept aims to represent the mobility of the future, whose goal must be to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads through more sustainable and efficient use. Therefore, the Sion comes with integrated sharing options ex works. These allow the owner to share the car itself, individual trips, or even energy via a mobile application developed by Sono Motors (the goSono app).
Using the bidirectional charging function, the Sion can absorb and release electricity, operate electrical devices autonomously, or feed energy into other vehicles and the power grid. Thanks to the full-surface solar integration, up to 34 kilometers of pure and free solar energy can be charged into the vehicle's battery daily, which has a standard WLTP range of 255 kilometers.
At market launch, the Sion will be available in one trim level priced at €25,500. Further models based on the platform are planned.
Roadshow in Sweden
Since the prototypes were unveiled in summer 2017, the Sono Motors team has been conducting test drive roadshows throughout Europe. The next roadshow will take place in Sweden to mark the collaboration with NEVS. Currently, Sono Motors has approximately 9,800 reservations for the Sion with advance payments.
