The Wavelab is aimed at interested students and graduates from the fields of music, art, performing arts, film and media, as well as new technologies. The goal is to encourage start-ups in the arts, culture, and entertainment sectors that leverage developments in digitalization and to support them through workshops, coaching, and mentoring. The focus is primarily on technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The regular events will kick off on 20 and 21 November 2020 with the “Wave Innovation Days”They address the question "How do we manage to transfer the live concert experience into the digital space?" and offer a corresponding workshop program over one and a half days. A pool of experienced startup coaches will assist you through the process of idea development and pitch preparation.
Six-month incubator program in Wavelab
From 2021, a six-month incubator program, which supports startups with office space, coaching, and access to the Wavelab investor and expert network. In addition, open, collaborative events and networking formats with technology companies, cultural and creative institutions, and businesses are offered for students of artistic or creative fields of study, as well as for those interested in the cultural and creative industries.
Bernd Redmann, President of the HMTM, explains:
"The Institute for Cultural Management and Media at our university is already the only German art school to offer a cultural management degree program with a focus on cultural entrepreneurship. Several successful startups have already emerged from this program. HMTM now aims to consistently continue this path and become the hub for cultural entrepreneurship with the Wavelab."
And Maurice Lausberg, Head of the Institute for Cultural Management and Media at the HMTM and initiator of the Wavelab, adds:
