TUM Venture Labs: “The goal is to make Munich the leading European metropolis for technology startups”

The Technische Universität München (TUM) and its affiliated institute UnternehmerTUM are launching the TUM Venture Labs, a new initiative for start-ups from research.

The TUM Venture Labs are designed to support high-potential startup teams in technology fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum technology, and healthcare. The offerings include incubation space, training and venturing programs, and access to global networks of companies and investors. A press release states:

“The goal of the new innovation centers is to make Munich the leading European metropolis for technology startups.”

The Venture Labs are designed to provide globally competitive conditions for founders in an interdisciplinary field. They bring together expertise from cutting-edge research, venturing, and management.

TUM Venture Labs are intended to “contribute to reversing Europe’s increasing technological dependence into a new sovereignty for our continent.”

The program launches with Venture Labs in the technology fields of Software/AI, Robotics/AI, Quantum, Aerospace, Built Environment, Molecular Assembly, Healthcare, and Food/Agro. Further offerings in the focus areas of Additive Manufacturing, Mobility, and Sustainability are currently being planned.

“Munich has the best prerequisites to become the leading technology innovation center in Europe,”

says Thomas F. Hofmann, President of TUM.

"The TUM Venture Labs will bring together the ideas, developments, and findings of our outstanding scientists in engineering, natural sciences, life sciences, social sciences, economics, IT, and medicine in high-potential technology fields and drastically accelerate their implementation into marketable applications. Dynamic families of startups in the environment of cutting-edge science and global companies ensure that these high-tech innovations reach the market most quickly and thus benefit society. In this way, we want to contribute to reversing Europe's increasing technological dependence into a new sovereignty for our continent."

Helmut Schönenberger, co-founder and CEO of UnternehmerTUM and Vice President Entrepreneurship at TUM, says:

"The network of TUM Venture Labs supports spin-offs from academia, directly at the scene, and creates interfaces for cooperation with digital startup centers in Bavaria as well as small and medium-sized enterprises across various technology domains. With the TUM Venture Lab Residency program, we aim to leverage the innovative power of founders from across Bavaria."
