Flixtrain returns to the rails

Since May 28, Flixbus has been back on the road. Initially, it operated on a very limited network, but this was quickly expanded to include other European destinations. Almost two months later, the green trains also returned to service: Starting July 23, Flixtrain will be running again – initially only between Berlin and Cologne.

Initially, Flixtrain will serve the route between Berlin and Cologne ten times a week. The trains will also stop in Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Dortmund, Bielefeld, and Hanover.

The Flixtrain carriages were refurbished for the relaunch and equipped with new seats, power outlets, and Wi-Fi. Compartment carriages were converted into open-plan carriages. Train provider Like its sister company Flixbus, it relies on a comprehensive hygiene concept: In addition to thorough cleaning and disinfection before, after, and during every journey, this also includes a completely contactless check-in. As with Deutsche Bahn, masks are mandatory on the trains. All passengers on Flixtrain receive a free seat. This should ensure a more orderly boarding and disembarkation process. André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of FlixMobility, says:

"Especially in times when hygienic travel is more important than ever, we are providing added safety by ensuring orderly boarding – and of course, free of charge.”

Flixbus and Flixtrain have had a difficult time

The restart of Flixtrain represents a further step towards a return to normality for the parent company Flixmobility. The company has faced tough months, as André Schwämmlein explained in the #CoronaUpdate with Munich Startup. He said at the time: "We are in an industry that has been hit extremely hard by the coronavirus."

Here again the #CoronaUpdate with André Schwämmlein from June 3, 2020:
