Deserted city centers – shopping only from the sofa? What can we do to strengthen stationary retail – especially in rural areas? With these questions, the Günther Rid Foundation and UnternehmerTUM, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Technical University of Munich, launched the Competition “Trade in Transition”.
The award was presented at the RID Future Congress on October 14. There was a surprise: The jury was so impressed by all the finalists that they awarded two main prizes, each with a cash prize of 10,000 euros. One of the winners of the 2015 Innovation Award is Munich startup LOCLET.
"Discover your city" – LOCLET is a location-based quiz game in which players solve and place exciting puzzles, called "Loclets," at locations throughout the city. The LOCLET app enlivens city centers and guides potential customers to local retailers. Local retailers can make their businesses part of the game by placing exciting "Loclets." The jury explained the award for LOCLET as follows: "LOCLET allows you to discover cities in a playful way and offers retailers the potential to interact directly with customers in urban spaces. The team's professional approach and the rapid technical development of the prototype convinced the jury. We hope that walk-in customers will become LOCLET customers in the future. And retailers will become their customers."
