Sono Motors presents the series design of the Sion

ThereMunich startup Sono Motors presents the first images of the Sion series design. The new design focuses on the full integration of the solar modules into the body. Thanks to the technology developed by Sono Motors, the solar cells blend seamlessly with the vehicle's surface and can generate up to 34 kilometers of additional range per day.

“Since the presentation of our first prototype in the summer of 2017, we have consistently developed the solar integration technology we have been working on since 2016,”

explained Mathieu Baudrit, Head of Research and Development Solar Integration at Sono Motors.

“The production vehicle will feature fully integrated solar cells embedded in a durable and resilient polymer, which now contribute to the vehicle’s design aesthetics with optimized color matching.”

Reservationists decide

The Sion is growing in size. It's larger, longer, and wider, emphasizing the vehicle's shoulders. The production version of the Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV) has more legroom and even more interior space. An additional rear side window is intended to ensure all-round visibility. The rear end is slightly more stepped and, in combination with the LED taillight design, more three-dimensional.

Sono Motors involves Sion reservists in the decision on selected vehicle details via community voting, thus breaking new ground in vehicle development.

Current reservations: 9,500

With the Sion, Sono Motors is launching a CO₂-compensated electric car and the first production vehicle with solar integration. Connectivity and intelligent application possibilities are at the heart of the vehicle concept. The car features integrated sharing options; an app allows sharing the vehicle itself, a ride, and energy via the bidirectional charging function. Sono Motors plans to develop additional vehicles based on the Sion platform, for example in the areas of urban mobility, logistics and transport, or last-mile delivery, including for the international market.

The company currently has approximately 9,500 reservations for the Sion, with down payments. The vehicle will be delivered at market launch in one trim level priced at €25,500.
