On March 13, 2026, Vaeridion cut the ribbon, officially opening its first production hall and test facility at Oberpfaffenhofen Airport. The Munich-based startup is developing a fully electric regional aircraft and, with the new facility, is preparing for the manufacturing and testing of crucial components for the maiden flight. At the same time, the facility will lay the foundation for future series production.
Production and testing in one location
Vaeridion plans to produce and assemble its proprietary battery systems in Oberpfaffenhofen. The site also houses a test bench for electric drives, where the startup intends to further test its own system, the so-called Copper Bird.
With this move, Vaeridion is consolidating the production, technical development, and testing of key systems for the Microliner at its Oberpfaffenhofen location. For the company, the new facility represents an operational step towards bringing core technologies closer to practical application.
Bavaria as an interface between research and development
Vaeridion's decision to build a test and production hall in Oberpfaffenhofen highlights a strength of Bavaria as an environment for industrial technologies: The proximity of research, technical infrastructure and practical testing creates conditions that are particularly attractive for young industrial companies.
Ivor van Dartel, CEO and co-founder of Vaeridion, summarizes the move and its background as follows:
"The opening of this facility is for Vaeridion This is a crucial step as we move from advanced development to production and flight testing. Bavaria, and Oberpfaffenhofen in particular, offers a unique ecosystem where industrial partners, research institutions, regulatory authorities, and flight operations come together.”
The opening was attended by representatives from politics, industry, and the aerospace sector. From a company perspective, the new location represents an operational milestone on the path to the first flight and subsequent series production.
