Munich-based startup Ororatech is launching a major project in Argentina. Together with the local technology company GPTech and the Río Negro province, the company is deploying satellite-based services for the detection and monitoring of wildfires. According to Ororatech and the province, the system will cover more than 20 million hectares in Patagonia. For the startup, this represents another international application of its Wildfire Solution.
At the heart of the project are two control centers in Bariloche and El Bolsón. According to Ororatech, GPTech built and operates the centers. Ororatech provides the satellite-based platform that delivers thermal data and alerts in near real-time. This will enable emergency responders and officials to detect fires earlier and coordinate responses more quickly.
The province of Río Negro had the expansion of the satellite-based monitoring Announced in January and presented on February 13th, the technology is intended to enable early warning, ongoing monitoring, and analysis of fires throughout the province.
For Ororatech The Patagonia project is groundbreaking because the technology is being used in a large-scale operational structure. According to Ororatech, in addition to satellite data, ground data, drone images, and a Starlink-based communications infrastructure are also integrated. This demonstrates that the startup's software not only provides warnings but also becomes part of a more comprehensive system for firefighting operations.
