Arx Robotics cooperates with Daimler Truck

The Munich-based startup Arx Robotics is entering into a strategic partnership with Daimler Truck. The goal is to integrate AI and robotics technologies into special-purpose military vehicles to improve their digital connectivity and operational capability.

Daimler Truck and defense tech company Arx Robotics have signed a letter of intent for a strategic partnership. Together, they aim to integrate AI and robotics technologies into military vehicle platforms. In particular, the Unimog and Zetros models of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks are planned to be upgraded with sensor and software modules. This is intended to increase the digital connectivity and operational capability of the vehicles.

Marc Wietfeld, co-founder and CEO of Arx Robotics, emphasizes:

"The future of land forces is software-defined, as this is the only way they can operate in a closely networked manner when needed. Modern vehicles should therefore be able to incorporate the latest software and AI modules to continue to be an efficient part of NATO forces. ARX Robotics' solutions, in conjunction with off-road vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, can significantly increase efficiency in the defense vehicle sector. Our planned joint project takes a European approach and aims to strengthen the innovative strength and competitiveness of the European defense industry."

Arx Robotics provides software and hardware

The technological basis of the planned innovations is the operating system Mithra OS from Arx Robotics. It enables networking with other software-defined systems, including compatible vehicles or drones. The Arx Core is the central computing and networking unit that will be installed in the vehicles. It supports the integration of sensors, cameras, and radio systems to enable rapid data acquisition and processing with AI support.

Daniel Zittel, Head of Sales Defence at Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, explains:

"We are currently investing and growing in the defense sector to better meet customer needs and offer specialized solutions for military tasks. We look forward to collaborating with Arx Robotics, one of the leading startups for autonomous ground systems. Digitalization and AI will play a key role in the defense sector, particularly in cyber defense, defense logistics, and international cooperation."

Pilot project with Zetros vehicles

A first step in the cooperation is the equipping of Mercedes-Benz Zetros vehicles with the digital systems of ArxAfter the technical implementation, the companies will test various application scenarios. In the long term, teleoperation and autonomous functions will also be included in the Unimog's equipment.

Another goal of the partnership is to retrofit existing vehicle fleets to contribute to the modernization of NATO vehicles. This will make both new and existing vehicles more efficient and versatile through digital systems.
